There are a lot of people that enjoy the RC car hobby for very different reasons. Some like the collection aspect of the whole thing and really like the idea of assembling an entire set of the cars that they either want to have but can't afford, or maybe ones they liked when they were younger. Others find more enjoyment in the mechanical aspect of the whole thing where they switch out certain components for others or customize the appearance of the cars. Finally, there are also people that get the most out of pitting their cars against one another.
A lot of the time one of the most enjoyable aspects of racing the RC cars are making the course itself. You can either put a lot of time and effort into making one that is as intricate as any that you would see on a formula 1 circuit, or you could just use a few things you have lying around and improvise a course to test the cars and your controlling skills. There are basically two types of courses you can make, and both of them correspond with a certain type of RC car.
The first course is the rougher and more obstacle-filled dirt track that the off-road RC cars would be perfect for. This will take a bit of time to prepare and will require quite a bit of effort, but the end result will be worth it. Seeing as how the off road RC cars are made for rougher paths than the regular variety, you might also want to dig some small holes to serve as trenches and a bit of a sandhill here and there might also be good. If you can't be bothered to do all this, al you really need to do is draw a clear outline on an unpaved path and scatter some rocks to serve as obstacles.
The other course that you could make to see which RC car is the fastest requires nothing more than a bit of chalk. All you really have to do is find a large driveway or an abandoned parking lot or stretch of road and try and trace a circuit that seems like it would present a challenge. For a real test of skill, you can also set up a few hazards here and there much like the rocks work on the sand course mentioned above. After that, all you have to do is make sure that the controller has batteries in it and get a trophy ready for the RC champ.
