If you are someone who loves exploring the outdoors and challenge yourself at the same time be it with a backpack and your own two feet or with a camper staying safe and sound is going to be your priority. No matter how experienced or physically strong you are you can never know when something bad will happen. There's always going to be a set of supplies that you'll want to bring with you and it is best that you have all your gear ready to go no matter when your next adventure will be.
Water Purifier/ Filter
Purifiers and filters are not the same thing as the former just gets rid of bacterial, parasitical and viral contaminants in the water whilst the latter prepper supplies reduce or remove viruses and bacteria. Water purifiers can remove protozoa and other bacteria in the water but they won't be able to remove sediment and chemicals that might contaminate it.
Water filters, on the other hand, can reduce or clean water from nickel, lead, chlorine, iron, copper, chromium and more. And although they are not able to completely remove bacteria and viruses, they do reduce their number and can even eliminate some species of bacteria.
What to Consider
The capacity of the filter will determine its lifespan and while some might last for a couple of days other filter/ purifiers may last for a couple of weeks or even a month. There are high quality filters/ purifiers that will provide you with 1 tonne of clear water with one cartridge and other prepper products can clean up to 378 tonnes of contaminated water with a single cartridge.
Not all filters/ purifiers are easy to use though despite being so small and portable, as there are some models that will require you to prime them or follow certain instructions to set them up. You should go for models that you simply draw water through them and drink as you would from a straw.
Portability won't always make for a an easy to carry filter/ purifier as weight can make it unbearable to carry it all the time. When it comes to convenience you should also consider the filtration speed especially if you are going to explore the wild with multiple people. Some will clean about 60ml of water in a minute while others can do nearly 600ml in the same amount of time.
Solar Charger
A portable solar charger will replace two items, an electrical source and obviously a charger as it can simultaneously generate electricity from the sun and charge your devices. Depending on the output of the charger, you might only charge a small number of devices but at least you won't have to worry about your GPS device or flashlight being unusable.
Shower Filter
You can't use up your water filter/ purifier for shower water too hence why is best you get a shower filter as it makes everything a lot simpler and makes your water filter/ purifier last longer. Installing shower filter prepper supplies will remove pesticides, chlorine and other heavy metals from the water and they will also make it softer. With a softer water the chance of skin irritation are going to be reduced and your shower head won't get blocked as easy.
Fire Starter
Whilst during the day you might not need to start a fire and if you do it's definitely easier with the power of the sun on your side. But at night this essential power source isn't available and whilst a lighter and matches do the job just fine they are not as long lasting as stormproof matches or a fire striker. Unlike regular matches which once wet become useless with stormproof matches you can even step on them and they won't become useless let alone splashing water on them. With a fire striker you can expect to use it for around 3000 times until the steel gets dull.
First Aid Kit
There are first aid kits made for the outdoors, but you'll still need to add personal medications. You'll also need to have antibiotics so you won't have to visit the doctor. Sunscreen is also important but you shouldn't rely on it solely instead cover your skin with clothes. In a very serious situation where you've severed a leg or an arm a tourniquet can prevent blood loss and potentially save your life. When spending out a lot of time outside you definitely need a bug spray too to keep insects away and prevent annoying itching.
Hygiene
Personal hygiene prepper products is important wherever you go not only because of bad odour but also for health-related reasons too. A hand sanitiser is probably the best way to keep your hands free of germs when you're away from civilisation as it can kill 99.9% of germs without spending any water. Toilet paper and soap are must-haves and oral hygiene and of course, stocking up on toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss will keep your teeth healthy and safe from tooth decay issues.
Essential Tools
Even if you are not much of a DIYer, tools such as a hammer, shovel, pliers and survival knife are imperative. A regular hammer will obviously do the job put you can also get a rubber mallet, a sledge hammer or a ball peen hammer for specific uses. A shovel may seem like an overkill but you never know when you'll need to clear a path or dig a latrine trench if you are going extreme.
Survival knifes are nothing similar to a regular knife as they are made to last longer and often come with a serrated blade which makes for a more reliable tool. Pliers will let you perform actions your hands can't especially and preserve space. You can have everything you need right in your pocket with pliers that are packed with other tools but are still compact and functional, these are called multi tools.
